Dr. Mary K. Benjamin-Swonger, DPM, AFCAS
Dr. Mary K. Benjamin-Swonger    
Originally from Flint, Michigan, Dr. Swonger came to the Ohio area in 1993 to further her surgical training. In 1988, she graduated from Nazareth College in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry and math. Dr. Swonger earned her medical degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland in 1992. At that time Dr. Swonger was accepted into a residency position in Phoenix, Arizona, working at the VA Hospital and Air Force Base. Her training was geared toward trauma as well as acute and chronic wounds and limb salvage. After her training in Arizona, she furthered her surgical work with two more years of comprehensive ankle, rearfoot, and forefoot surgery. Dr. Swonger is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Orthopaedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine. She is a Diplomat of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons as well as a professional member of the Ohio and American Podiatric Medical Associations.

 

 

 

Dr. Swonger is the founder and director of Grand Lake Podiatry, Incorporated. The Celina office was established in 1996 with the addition of the Bluffton, Ohio, office in 1998. She purchased the Bellefontaine and Springfield offices in July of 2002. Since 1998, Grand Lake Podiatry, Inc. has also established offices in Minster, Van Wert and Wapakoneta. She has served as a foundation member for Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.  Dr. Swonger is a staff physician at all the local area hospitals.  She is part of the medical team at the Disease Management Center through Mercer Health in Celina and the Lima Memorial Hospital Wound Center specializing in infections, chronic wounds, diabetic wounds and limb salvage. 

Dr. Swonger and her husband, Scott, reside in the Celina area with their 4 children. She enjoys spending time with family, coaching soccer, scrap- booking, cross-stitching and any outdoor activity. She is currently the coach for the U8 indoor soccer teamGrand Lake Podiatry “TOE”nadoes.   In the future Dr. Swonger hopes to become part of a mission to help underdeveloped countries and underprivileged children to meet their medical needs.
